Information about Tennis Club Odense
Tennis Club Odense is a Danish tennis club situated in Odense. The club was founded in 1889 as a part of Odense Boldklub, which is one of the most successful Danish football clubs. However, the tennis club withdrew from the football club in 1996. In 2007, the club officially changed its name to Tennis Club Odense.
With approximately 650 members, Tennis Club Odense is the largest tennis club on Funen. The club has 12 outdoor clay courts located beautifully near Odense River, but at the moment it has no permanent indoor facilities. During the indoor season, members of the club are forced to play tennis in a local warehouse. Despite this, Tennis Club Odense is one of most successful Danish tennis clubs on a national level. In 2009, Tennis Club Odense won the bronze medal at the Danish Team Championship. Throughout the past couple of decades, many junior players from the club have won the Danish Junior Championship.
On an international level, Tennis Club Odense was the host of Fyn Open, an ITF tournament which was part of the ITF Men’s Circuit in the 1990s. In 2010, Tennis Club Odense was selected as the host of a new ITF junior tournament.
International tournaments
There is a new ITF junior tournament starting on June 19, 2010. For more information, go to ITF Junior Outdoor Cup Odense 2010.
